LINCOLN --- Pearl Irene Essington, 100, of Muscatine, Iowa, formerly of Lincoln, died at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday (Aug. 26, 1998) at Lutheran Homes, Muscatine.

Her graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at [Old] Union Cemetery, Lincoln, with Tom Gerdts officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at Holland & Barry Funeral Home, Lincoln. Memorials may be made to Lutheran Homes, Muscatine, Iowa.

Mrs. Essington was born Oct. 2, 1897, in Middletown, a daughter of Amos and Alice Beck Walker. She married Frank Smith. She then later married Rell Musick and later married Hugh Essington. All three husbands preceded her in death.

She is survived by one daughter, Melba Smith Olander, Port Charlotte, Fla.; one son, Norman Blaine Smith, Muscatine, Iowa; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by three brothers: Frank, Roy, and Riley Waller; and three sisters, Maude Miller, Nora Laffey, and Lulu Gillespie.
