Arlisle V. Ackermann, 94, a resident of the Sheboygan Senior Community, 930 N. South St., died there Monday, Jan 3, 2005.

Arlisle was born Jan. 31, 1910 in Sheboygan to John and Selma (Lange) Verhulst. She was a graduate of Sheboygan High School and attended Lawrence College Conservatory of Music in Appleton for two years. She then transferred to the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music in Milwaukee where she received a B.S. degree in Music.

On June 6, 195, Arlisle and Raymond C. Ackermann were united in marriage. He preceded her in death in 1965.

Arlisle was a well-known piano, organ and voice teacher. she was a member of Sigma Alpha lota, a national professional women's organization of music.

She was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church where she served as organist, junior and senior choir director and vocalist for more than 50 years. She also directed the Sanctuary Choir for 25 years. She served two terms as elder on the church session and was a member of the Sarah Circle where she served as program chairperson for many years.

Arlisle was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 139, where she served as vocalist and organist. She was also a member of the Sheboygan Music Club, holding many offices and chairmanships.

Arlisle was a past president of the Sheboygan Women's Club, the Sheboygan County Republican Women's Club and the Lend-A-Hand Circle of the International Order of the King's Daughters. She was also chairman of the First Ward Voting Poll for many years.

Arlisle was an excellent contract bridge player, enjoying the Kohler Tournament marathons as well as belonging to several area bridge clubs. Over the years, Arlisle enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Europe, Alaska, Mexico and Hawaii. For many years, she entertained area nursing home residents with her musical programs.

Arlisle is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John and Alice Ackermann of Sheboygan; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Ralph Wilkinson of Muscatine, Iowa; grandchildren, Marty (Martin) Tomczyk of Wauwatosa, Christ (special friend, Jonathan Nagode) Ackermann, Nicole (Edward) Korzetz of Seabrook, Texas, Randall(Laraine) Wilkinson of Stone Mountain, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Stephen and Abigail Korzetz; and a niece, Joan Verhulst of Sarasota, Fla.

In addition to her husband, Raymond, Arlisle was preceded in death by an infant sister, Ethel, and a brother, John E. Verhulst.

Memorial services for Arlisle will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8 at First Presbyterian Church, 1429 N. Fifth St., Sheboygan, with the Rev. Dr. Richard C. Manny, pastor officiating.

Friends may call at the time of service.

A memorial fund has been established in the name of Arlisle V. Ackermann at First Presbyterian Church for special music.
