Obituary for Mr. Larry S. Dingman

Mr. Larry S. Dingman, 70, of Nellis Road, Fort Plain, New York passed away peacefully at his home, early Tuesday morning, March 29, 2016. Born on November 25, 1945 in Amsterdam, NY, he was the son of Silas L. Dingman and Thelma E. Smith Dingman. He was a graduate of Fort Plain High School, Class of 1965 and was a lifetime area resident. Mr. Dingman most recently drove pickup and delivery for Fucillo Auto Plex in Nelliston, NY, starting in 2013. He retired from Montgomery County DPW as a working supervisor December 27, 2002 after more than 42 years of employment. Larry was a veteran of the US Marine Corp., serving from 1965-1969, spending 2 years in Vietnam. He then enlisted in the US National Guard from 1975-1997. He served as Democratic Voting Inspector for the Town of Palatine. Larry was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served as Vice President of Church Council. Mr. Dingman was a referee for soccer, basketball, and an umpire for girl's softball for 35 years, and volleyball for 10 years. He was the proud donor of the Girl's Score Board on the Fort Plain Girl's Softball Field in memory of his friend, Brian Nellis. He served as past commander of the VFW Earl Stock Memorial Post #3275 three times and had been a member since 1967. He was also a member of the VFW Memorial Squad, and was a member of the American Legion for over 26 years, member of the Canajoharie/Fort Plain Elks #2621 BPOE, and was a past member of the Canajoharie Loyal Order of the Moose. Larry was married to Debbie Symolyn Nellis from June 10, 1972 until June 6, 1985. His brothers, Leon Dingman and Ron Dingman predeceased him. His sister, Diane T. Tompkins of Fort Plain, NY; several nieces, nephews, and cousins survive Mr. Dingman. A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 4, 2016 at 11:00am at Trinity Lutheran Church, 5420 St. Hwy. 10, Palatine Bridge, NY 13428, with Rev. Zachary Labagh officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, April 3, 2016 from 1:00-4:00pm at Trinity Lutheran Church. Arrangements are entrusted to Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery with full Military honors. Contributions in memory of Mr. Larry S. Dingman may be made to the Canajoharie/Fort Plain Elks, Old Station Road, Nelliston, NY 13410.
