EAST LIVERPOOL – Donald Milton Cook, 81, of Meadow Road died at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006, at the Robert E. Boyce Pavilion at City Hospital, where he had been a patient three weeks.

Born July 19, 1925 , in East Liverpool , a son of the late Milton Cook and Ethel Deshler Cook, he grew up in Midland , Pa. , and then moved to East Liverpool as a young adult.

A World War II veteran, he served as a navigator in the U.S. Air Force. He retired from the Ohio Department of Highways in 1988 after serving 34 years as a civil engineer.

A member of Emmanuel Presbyterian, he served as an elder at one time.

Among his memberships were East Liverpool Lodge #315 of the Free and Accepted Masons, where he was a thirty-second degree member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Steubenville, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 700 in Midland, Pa. and a number of professional engineering societies in Ohio and Pennsylvania .

A 1943 graduate of Midland High School , he attended the University of Tennessee and was a 1950 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh .

He is survived by his wife, Helen "Babe" Calhoun Cook, at home, whom he married Oct. 13, 1950 .

Also surviving are a daughter, Pamela Cook, and her companion, Joe Tarbona, of Columbus; and two sons, Jay Cook and his companion, Dawn Newman, of East Palestine, and David Cook and his wife, Ellen, of Columbus.

There are four grandchildren, Victoria, Andrew, Mitchell and Noah Cook, all of Columbus , along with a sister Virginia Harris of Asbury Heights , Pa.

Several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Gladys Cook; and a brother, Jack Cook.

The Rev. Tanta Luckhardt-Hendricks of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church will conduct services at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Dawson Funeral Home.

Burial is to be in Columbiana County Memorial Park , where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will provide full military honors.
