Asbury Jones esteemed and respected citizen of this place, after an illness of one month, died at his home here Saturday, May 16, at 3 p.m. At the bedside when the end came were his devoted wife and sons, Willis D., Scott and Coleman.
Deceased was born Feb. 21, 1866 and at the time of his death was 65 years, two months, 25 days old.
On October 15, 1889, he was married to Dellie Diemer and to this union there were nine children born, to-wit: Mrs. Ben Jones, Willis D., Scott, and Van Jones of this city. Mrs. Della Blackwood of Smith's Ferry, Ohio, Mrs. J. E. Long of Edenburg, Pa., Mrs. L. L. Long of Enon Valley, Pa., Mrs. A. C. Patterson of Sharon, Pa. and James Jones of New. Castle, Pa.
After the death of his wife, which occurred July 24, 1911, he was married again, this time to Miss Beckie E. Hunter, who survives him, and to this there was one son, Coleman, all of the aforementioned children survived him, together with seventeen grandchildren, some of whom reside here, others in Pennsylvania and Ohio.
Mr. Jones came to this place in 1917 with his family and purchased property on which he has resided ever since and where he died.
Deceased was a devout member of the Methodist E. church for 45 years and the funeral service was conducted from the M. E. church here by Rev. Mr. Stephens, local pastor, and Rev. Marion Speakman of Leoma, Tenn. The Brock choir conducted the song services, which were rendered beautifully, and the body of the deceased was laid to rest in the old cemetery adjacent to the M. E. church at this place.
Floral designs were many and beautiful and a large concourse of relatives and friends attended the funeral, the church being filled to it's utmost capacity, many standing and others unable to gain entrance. Ministers conducting the funeral serives touched the audience deeply with feeling remarks, eulogizing the life of the deceased, and admonished their hearers to follow in his footsteps.
Mr. Jones was a man of quiet habits and unassuming demeanor, but had made many friends while a resident of this city, all of whom regret his departure and mourn his loss. The active pallbearers were Fletcher Owens, Barney Jones, E. C. Massey, Tony Oehman, W. G. Gang and C. E. Pyles. Honorary pallbearers were John Mattox, Leslie Kincaid, Floyd Clifton and Paul Burch.
