"Fudge" was the son of William Lawson and Lula Lawson. He was educated in the Houston County School System. He retired from Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, Georgia in January of 1999 after 31 years of service. He was a member of Sandbed Baptist Church in Kathleen, Georgia where he sang in the Choir and was Ordained as a Deacon. At the time of his death, he was the Senior Deacon in the Church.

He was married to Eva Mae Berry Lawson on February 8, 1942, they were married for 63 years.

Survivors:
Wife: Eva Mae Lawson.
4 Daughters: Lula Mae Boone(Luther), Lillie Pearl Lawson, Virgil Mae Lawson and Lula Smith(Kittom).
1 Son: Virgil Lee Lawson Jr.
1 Sister: Lillie Mae Tolbert.
Several Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.

Services were held Thursday, October 27,2005 at 1pm in the Sanctuary of Sandbed Baptist Church in Kathleen, Georgia with Rev Floyd Clarington officiating.
