ALBANY – Betty (Lewis, Saffer) Gregg, age 89, peacefully passed away Thursday, March 31, 2016, while surrounded by many loving family members. She was born September 22, 1926 to Ralph and Marie Lewis. She graduated from Albany High School in 1945. She retired from Industrial Trust after 26 years, where many of the customers requested that only she wait on them. Betty was a 70 year member of the Albany Tri Kappa Sorority, and a long time member of the Albany American Legion Auxiliary, Post 167. She loved being with her family, traveling, visiting her son in the state of Washington, and spending summers at their cottage at Little Chapman Lake. Anyone who knew her also knew she was a loyal and very boisterous fan of the Albany Wildcats, and later in life, the IU Hoosiers basketball team.
Survivors include: her daughter Sheryl (Sherry) Wright (husband Harry) Albany, IN, her sons Michael (Mike) Saffer (wife Karen) Tenino, WA, and Doug Gregg (wife Debbie) Muncie, IN. Sisters: Judith Davis (husband David), Albany, IN and Barbara Lewis, Albany, IN. Sisters-in-laws: Margaret Saffer, Port Orchard, WA, Marie Lewis, Albany, IN, Madonna Harshman, Albany, IN, Pat Gregg, FL, Rhoda Haney (husband Hal) Albany, IN, Gerri Gregg, Albany, IN, and brother-in-law: Sheldon Gregg (wife Barbara); grandchildren: Noah Saffer, Kellie Bergdoll (husband Aaron), Angie LaBoyteaux (husband Mark), Joe Reynard, Amy Minar (husband Mike), Melanie Graham (husband Mike), MaNell Hembree (husband Steve), Josh Gregg (wife Jenn); 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces & nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, John D. Gregg, who passed in 1997; and former spouse, Derald L. Saffer, father of her children Mike and Sherry; her parents, Ralph and Marie Lewis; a daughter, Judy Reynard; and brothers: Ralph Lewis, Jr. (infant), Dale Lewis, Charles “Oskie” Lewis, and Robert “Razz” Lewis.
Services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at Meacham Funeral Service with her son, Doug Gregg officiating. Burial will follow at Black Cemetery, Albany, IN.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM; and 10-11 AM Wednesday, (prior to services).
