His father, William Keating (1874-1917), was the son of Irish immigrants James Keating and Catherine Nolan.
His mother, Julia Manly/Manley (1880-1933), was the daughter of Irish immigrants Patrick Manley and Johanna Shea.
Alfred had four Siblings: George John Keating (1899-1963), Arthur Keating (1902-1976), Gertrude (1904-1904), and Julia (1909-1909)
Alfred and his wife, Helen, contracted tuberculosis and were sent to an inpatient treatment facility (sanitorium). He was 27 years of age. Their children (ages 7, 4 & 2) were sent to a foundling home and entered foster care, where they remained for at least 7 years.
Alfred succumbed to the disease at St. Anthony TB hospital in Queens at the age of 43.
