Alford Lee Atteberry - he went by Lee - was the oldest child of 16 chidren born to Thomas and Eveline Atteberry. I was told by his sister, Alice, that he was born in Corona, in Walker County, as given in WWI Draft Registration.

By 1900, his parents had moved to Fayette County, which boarders on Walker.

He married Minnie Laningham on 28 Aug. 1904 in Alabama. His occupation is given as Farm Laborer. The family had three children, a boy and two girls. Olin, died when he was eleven.

When World War I broke out, Lee registered in Alabama(1916) but since he had a wife and three children to support, they did not call him up. His physical description on that record is given as "medium height and build with black eyes and black hair."

The family moved to Missouri in 1917, they had been living there "one year" in 1918, when Lee's son, Olin died at age 11 accourding to that death certificate.

Lee was injured when a coal oven exploded and died sometime later in the Kennett hospital of complications from the burns he had recieved, He was 82. He survied his wife by nine years.

(Note: His death certificate incorrectly spells his name as Alfred but various other records shows this to be incorrect.)

Strangely enough, the Social Security Death Index gives his death as Feb. 15 but his death certificate gives Feb. 8.
