T. D. Wiman Succumbs At Roscoe

Roscoe - Tom Dick (T.D.) Wiman, Sr., 91, of 610 Bois D'Arc here, died at 2:10 a.m. Sunday after an illness of several months.

Mr. Wiman was a retired farmer and had been a community leader in Roscoe and surrounding area for over 50 years.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday from the First Baptist Church in Roscoe, where he had served as a deacon for 50 years, with the Rev. Lewis Markwood, pastor, and the Rev. Marvin Burgess of Ballinger officiating. Burial will be in Roscoe Cemetery under direction of Wells Funeral Home of Roscoe.

Mr. Wiman was born Nov. 13, 1875 in Ellis County and came to the Bitter Creek community near Roscoe as a young child with his family. He worked as a construction man in helping to build the Nolan County courthouse in Sweetwater.

In 1895, he married Miss Mary Alice Harris in Merkel. She died April 8, 1964. She was Texas Baptist Mother of the Year in 1963.

The couple lived a number of years in Stanton, returning to Nolan County and settling in Roscoe in 1911.

Surviving are six sons, Ernest, Charles Harris and Talmage, all of Roscoe, John A. of Snyder, T. D., Jr. of Colorado City, and Jim K. of Clovis, N.M.; seven daughters, Mrs. Margaret Adams of Terrell, Mrs. Mary Devenport of Snyder, Mrs. Miltie Blackshare of Orchard, Mrs. Gladys Wade of Clinton, Okla., Mrs. Nora Smith of Enid, Okla., Mrs. Pat Keith [sic] of Colorado City and Miss Ruth Wiman of Roscoe; one brother, Milton Smith Wiman of Dumas; 34 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Lewis Kerby, Ed Althof, Herbert Cooper, Waymon Jacobs, Lon Ward and Ernest Parrott.
