Salem, OH - Josephine T. Bernard, age 77, formerly of Leetonia died at 1:40 a.m. Saturday, October 7, 2006 at Blossom Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Salem following a long illness.
Mrs. Bernard was born October 29, 1928 in Leetonia, a daughter of Frank and Mary Josephine Stilliano Troy and had lived in this area all of her life.

She had been a machine operator and welder for WM Inc. in Washingtonville for 21 years. Josephine also owned the Leetonia Bakery and was well known for her catering in the Leetonia area for many years.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Leetonia, the LCBA Branch #909, and was a charter member of the Leetonia Italian-American Club.

Her husband, Anthony J. Bernard, whom she married June 14, 1952, died November 24, 1980.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Deborah S.) Knopp of Salem; two sons, Tony Bernard, and his fiancé, Karen Nelson and Vincent Bernard, and his fiancé, Debbie Burgy, both of Columbiana; a sister, Madeline Liebhart of Salem; six grandchildren, Nicole, Kasey, and Shawn Knopp, Knute and Whitney Bernard and Annie Jean Bernard.

She was also preceded in death by two sister, Elizabeth Ward and Helen Bowers and four brothers, Anthony, Frank, Arthur, and Carmen Troy, Sr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Leetonia, with the Reverend John P. Tully officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Material tributes may be made to Mt. Calvary Cemetery Association, St. Patrick's Church Endowment Fund, the American Diabetes Association.
