James Ora Mauney or "Uncle Jim" was born in Jefferson County but lived in Etowah county most of his life. He married but once and had two sons. He and his wife, Anna, divorced and he moved into the "garage apartment" his sister Leafy's son George had built prior to World War II.
He lived in that setting until the late 1970's when he moved into his sisters' house.
He died in that house, along with his sister, from exposure when the heat failed.
He was a movie theater projectionist and a very quiet, sweet and gentle man.
