Born April 10, 1919 at Glade, he was the son of the late Vincent C. & Nora Alice Vance Cox.
Mr. Cox was a retired painter and was of the Baptist faith. He had lived most of his life in Summers County.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shelia Cox. Two sisters, Annie Johnson and Mabel Meadows. One brother, Robert Cox. One grandson, James Cox, Jr. and three great grandchildren.
Survivors include:
His wife, Claris Lilly Cox.
Four sons:
1. James Cox & wife Karen of Romerio, Michigan; 2. Kevin Cox of Daytona, Florida;
3. Ernest Cox of Raleigh, North Carolina;
4. Larry Cox of Minden, West Virgina.
One daughter:
Anita Lynn Scarbro & husband Roger of Minden, West Virginia.
Two step-sons:
1. Robert Cox & wife Cindy of Dover, Delaware
2. Pastor Cecil Cox & wife Anita of Elk Knob. Five step-daughters:
1. Mary Ferguson of Salisbury, North Carolina; 2. Myrtle DeMarino & husband Larry of JBranch; 3. Deloris Basham & husband Benny of JB;
4. Virginia Cook & husband Oley of JB;
5. Wilma Richmond & husband Rodney of Clayton.
21 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday October 1, 2006 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Don Hannah officiating. Burial will follow in the Josiah Lilly Cemetery on Ellison Ridge. Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be, Roy & William Rutherford, Russell Eric Richmond, Gary Basham, Donald Ferguson, Jr., Matthew Cox and Robert C. Cox.
