Born in Long Run, she was a daughter of the late George & Eva Ahner Kromer. Born in Long Run, Moved to Palmerton at age 3, returning to Long Run after marriage, then in later years to East Penn Township to be closer to her surviving family.
Betty married the Love of Her life, Elmer E. "Junior" Ahner. and the couple moved back to Long Run, where they raised their family of 3 children: George (deceased in 2000), Kevin (deceased in 1973) and Evalynn. Their life became difficult when Elmer became stricken with an illness that would leave him debilitated.
Betty's calling was to be a loving caregiver to her husband, her parents, and her brother Reuben, until their passing. She continued to use her talents to serve others by being her family's unofficial housekeeper and dog sitter. But her most treasured position was sharing in the raising of her only granddaughter, Kira.
She once wrote to Kira: "My precious granddaughter, Kira - You already made Nana proud. You are so special. God sent you to your mom dad and all of us when we needed happiness in our lives. You are a wonderful blessing to all of us...when I leave you all to be with God and my family in Heaven, I will tell them all about you. I'm sure they already Know, but I'll make sure. Love you, Nana Ba-nana.
She served her church, The LOng Run Church of the Brethern, as a Sunday School teacher and a council representative.
As a young woman she traveled to different area churches, singing as part of the Kromer Trio, Betty, Dot and Mable Kromer. Her love of music continued to her last breath.
She is survived by her daughter, Evalynn wife of Dennis Kuehner of Lehighton and her granddaughter, Kira.
She was predeceased by two sons; George Ahner and Kevin Ahner and two brothers; Kermit Kromer and Reuben Kromer.
Private funeral services at convenience of family. Arrangements by Miller Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers contribution in her name may be made to the Carbon County Animal Shelter C/o funeral home.
