Marie D. Tompkins, 86, of Sioux City, IA passed away on Friday, March 25, 2016 at her residence while surrounded by her family.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, April 1, 2016 with a short visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M. Services will be held at the Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE with Pastor Carol Jean Stapleton officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Walthill, NE.

Marie was born on October 9, 1929 in rural Jackson, NE. Marie was one of 10 children born to John "Jack" and Luella (McKlanahan) Davenport. She attended rural school north of their family home near Walthill, NE. She worked on the family farm, helping her parents. Marie married Perry J. Tompkins on September 10, 1949 in a chapel on Dakota Avenue in South Sioux City, NE on a very rainy day. Their witnesses were Jay Tompkins and his wife, Donna. The couple shared eight children while making their home in Walthill, NE. Marie was an amazingly hard worker at home and worked for 23 years at IBP. Marie continued to be a strong person and worker until the last months of her life.

She loved spending time with her family and friends, cooking, baking, gardening and canning from her own garden. She always liked to be outside and to be busy..

Survivors include her children, Judith Belt (Darrel), Gloria Bligh (Dennis), Jane Kinman, Perry Tompkins, Jr. (Mary), Fred "Fritz" Tompkins (Lisa) Elaine Rasmussen (Steve), Bonnie Schmitz (Earl), William "Bill" Tompkins (Caroline); 24 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Barbara Davenport.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, John and Luella Davenport; her husband, Perry Tompkins on May 20, 1994; all nine of her siblings, Lebert Davenport (Freda), Golda Backoweis (Jack), Walter Davenport, Leona Ehrlich (Sam), Grace Dunn (Lee), John Davenport, Cora Davenport (Jerry), 12 year old brother Donald Davenport, who died of high fevers, suffered throughout his lifetime, and ababy sister, Maxine who died of Spina Bifida. Marie was the last of the Jack and Luella Davenport family.
