A native of Penhook, Va., and former member of Boones Chapel Church of the Brethren, he had been a resident of Hampton, Va. for 16 years.
Colonel Adams retired from the U.S. Army in 1971 after 20 years of service and was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam wars. His decorations and award include the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Bronze Star Medal with oak leaf cluster, the Air Medal, the Commendation Medal, the Korean Presidential Citation, the Meritorious Unit Citation with cluster and the Senior Pararchutist Badge.
Graduating high school at Ferrum Jr. College he went on to receive a BS degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, a MA degree from Western Maryland College as well as being a graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College. He was a teacher and headmaster of the Eastern Shore Academy, Hallwood, Va. for seven years.
Survivors include a son, Frantz M. Adams, a daughter, Aurea Leigh Adams and a granddaughter, Frantzesca M. Adams, all of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico; four sisters, Evelyn A. Arsenault, Knoxville, Tenn., Adeen A. Selden, Penhook, Va., Polly A. Kahle, Christiansburg, Va., and Jody Adams, Hampton, Va.; a brother, Sneed T. Adams, Bedford, Va.
Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Sunday, July 2, 1995. Interment with full military honors will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Saturday with the family receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, 342 S. Main St., Rocky Mount.
