Associated with various campuses of the University of Maine System, Mraz was a professor at the University of Maine at Presque Isle and later served for many years as vice president for business and financial affairs. During the formation of the University of Maine System in 1969 he served as co-financial officer, handling all the former state colleges. In the years prior to his retirement from the System in 1984 he served as statewide project director for the student loan study, developing unification and policy reports, which were accepted and implemented by the University Maine Board of Trustees. Active in various professional organizations, he was a member of the National Association of College and University Business Officers, a coordinator of the National Center for Higher Education Management Systems and president of the Aroostook Schoolmaster Club. For many years he served on the Board of Directors as well as the Advisory Board of the Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland. A long-term trustee of the Fort Fairfield Public Library he did much work toward the planning and building of the new wing. He served as chairman of the Riverfront Park project during the Maine Street '90 program. Of all his retirement activities, he will be especially remembered for his work with the elderly and other in the Internal Revenue Service Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program and Tax Counseling for the Elderly.
