Eleanor Quinn Barnes
May 11, 1920 - April 14, 2016

Eleanor Louise Quinn Barnes died Thursday, April 14, 2016 at the age of 95.

Born in Loudon, TN, she was the daughter of the late Frank Mowry and Emma Mann Quinn. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jehu Lloyd Barnes, a sister, Katheryn Quinn Robinson, and two infant sisters.

Survivors include her four children, Betty Barnes Durman and husband Gary of Jonesborough, TN, Michael Barnes and wife Robin of Nebo, NC, Charles Barnes and wife Janice of Rocheport, MO, and William Barnes and wife Ramagene of Sweetwater, TN. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Gavin Durman, Jason Barnes, Jessica Shay, Mark Barnes, Jonathan Barnes, Marcy Barnes, and Misty Hall, and eleven great-grandchildren. She was blessed with very special nieces and nephews who, along with their spouses, were especially kind and loving over the years.

"Pete," as she preferred to be called, worked until the age of 75 as secretary and bookkeeper for the various businesses of the Wood family of Sweetwater. She was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church in Sweetwater. Complaining was not something she tolerated, and she thoroughly enjoyed her family, her friends, her books, and her work throughout her long life.

A service for "Pete" will be held 12:00 Noon, Saturday, April 23 in the McGill-Karnes Chapel with Rev. Larry Orr of First United Methodist Church, officiating. She would love the fact that the funeral home is in the same house where she grew up as the daughter of a funeral director, the house where she was married in December, 1941, and now the house where we celebrate her life.

The family would love to share your stories of "Pete," and request that in lieu of flowers donations be made in her memory to First United Methodist, 501 Church St., Sweetwater, TN 38874; Fairview Baptist Tabernacle Building Fund, 112 Key Kile Road, Sweetwater, TN 37874 or to the charity of your choice.

Burial will be private, for family only, at West View Cemetery in Sweetwater. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM – 12 Noon, Saturday, April 23, prior to the service at the McGill-Karnes Funeral Home, 406 Wharf Street, Loudon, TN.
