Relatives and friends may call in the Condon Funeral Home, 684 Kearny Ave., Kearny, (www.condonfuneralhome.com), on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Stephen's Church, Kearny. The interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
Born in Jersey City, Mrs. Higgins grew up in North Arlington and lived in Kearny and Tewksbury for many years before moving to Sea Girt four years ago.
Mrs. Higgins received her B.S. degree in elementary education from Caldwell College and started her career working for Associated Catholic Charities in Newark. She left there to go to work as a kindergarten and first grade teacher in St. Stephen's School in Kearny, where she taught for 35 years until retiring in 1996.
She was a member of St. Stephens's Rosary Society.
Predeceased by her husband, Thomas P. Higgins Jr.; her sister, Eleanor Betz, and sister-in-law, Mary Larkin, she is survived by her son, Patrick T. Higgins and his wife, Julianne K. Bigelli, and her daughter, Moira V. Higgins and George Baldwin; her sister, Anita Blubaugh and her husband, Thomas, and a brother and sister-in-law, Francis and Florence Higgins. Mrs. Higgins is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Morgan, Colin, Mia and Kiera Higgins.
The family has requested donations, in lieu of flowers, to the St. Stephen's School Endowment Fund, 131 Midland Ave., Kearny, N.J. 07032.
