Catalina María was a Native American woman born at ranchería Socorlonta about 1753. She was the daughter of Huyurmus (baptized Atanasio José) and Toyutchius (baptized Josefa). She assumed her Christian name upon her baptism at Mission San Carlos (Carmel) on October 27, 1772 (SC Baptism 00029). She married Native American neophyte (1) Fernando José Malaret (no surname) at Mission San Carlos (Carmel) on November 10, 1772 (SC Marriage 00001). This was the first marriage performed at Carmel. She married (2) soldado José Joaquín Espinosa y Lugo at the Monterey Presidio Chapel (San Carlos) on May 8, 1780 (SC Marriage 00154). After he was killed at the Yuma Crossing with Capitán Rivera y Moncada on July 17, 1781, she married (3) soldado José Antonio María Alegre y ... at the Monterey Presidio Chapel September 30, 1782 (SC Marriage 00197). Catalina died at San José de Guadalupe and was buried in the Mission Santa Clara de Asís cemetery on September 5, 1791 (SCL Death 00934a).
