He was united in marriage to Mary Ripley in 1837, his married life extending over a period of 61 years. He came to America in 1868 and soon after settled on the farm where he spent the remainder of his days. He had thirteen children, ten of whom are living. They are Mrs. Ann Lane, Roscoe; George, Yarmouth, IA; Render, La Junta, CO; Mrs. Elizabeth Drinkall, Yarmouth, IA; Edwin, Indianola, IA; Thomas, of this place, Mrs. Georgiana Affleck, Dubuque, IA; Mrs. Mary Moody, Winfield, IA; Mrs. Hannah Jordan and Mrs. Eliza Rundorff, both of Burlington, IA. There are 47 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. This family and his aged wife, who is in the 82nd year of her age, are left to mourn his departure. He had been sick for some time, but his end came suddenly at the last. The funeral was held at the house yesterday afternoon, conducted by Rev. M. J. Pusey, and was largely attended. Interment in the Kossuth Cemetery.
