Cornelia A. McGowen was the daughter of Russell Martin McGowen and Nancy M. (Mallard) McGowen. According to census records she was born about 1848 in probably Hinds County, Mississippi, She married Miles J. Hardy March 18, 1869 in Copiah County, Mississippi. They were the parents of five known children:
1) Fannie Zoe Hardy born about 1871 in Mississippi. Married Thomas N. Husbands June 7, 1894 in Hinds County, MS. One known son Thomas E. Husbands born July 1898.
2) Margaret E. Hardy born about 1874 in Mississippi
3) Charles W. Hardy born about 1877 in Mississippi - he may be the Charles Willie Hardy who married J. C. Johnson October 13, 1894 in Hinds County, MS
4) Russell Hamilton Hardy (1878-1956)
5) Minnie G. (Hardy) Maddox Courtney (1882-1945)
