LEE - Wellington Smith III of Los Angeles, California, great-grand nephew of the founder of the former Smith Paper Company, died in a Los Angeles hospital last night after a short illness at the age of 68.

He was born in Lee, the son of the late Wellington Smith Jr. and Ethel Lane Smith. He was graduated from Williams College and operated antique businesses in Brentwood, New Hampshire and in Los Angeles. He moved to Los Angeles last fall.

He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Edward Thompson of Los Angeles. Funeral services, arranged by the Kelly Funeral Home, will be held in Lee at a date to be announced.

Graveside services for Wellington Smith III of Los Angeles, California, formerly of Lee, will be held on Monday at 11:30 a.m. in Fairmount Cemetery in Lee, with the Rev. Robert A. Freeman, rector of St. George's Episcopal Church in Lee, officiating.
