Rita Carlene Black, 80, of Axtel, Texas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 11, 2006, at her daughter's home in Burnet, Texas. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at Connally/Compton Funeral Chapel with Pastor J.R. Crocker officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, at the funeral home.

Rita was one of five children born in Meridian, Texas, to the late Gause Ernest and Pearle Irene (McGehee) Rickard. She married and moved to Waco and remained in Waco all of her life. Rita retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company after 42 years of service. She remained very active with the Telephone Pioneers. After the death of her husband, Edward, in 1984, Rita volunteered for Hospice Services and Road to Recovery. She was a longtime member of Williams Creek Baptist Church.

Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; grandson, Billy Ray Lillard Jr.; and great-granddaughter Cassidy Salquist.

Survivors include daughter, Jeanie Threadgill and her husband, Michael, of Burnet; son, Billy Ray Lillard, Sr. and his wife, Carol, of Red Rock; grandchildren, Melissa McAllister, Troy Smith, Trey Lillard, Brandi Logan and Kelly Hill; numerous great-grandchildren; brothers, Joe Rickard, of Meridian, and Gene Rickard, of Littleton, Colo.; many nieces, nephews and close friends.
