Joseph Werner married three times:
1. Martha Emily Lucas, Jan. 1, 1864, Bartholomew Co., Indiana
Her name was given as "Mattie Lucas" on their marriage license; Emma on the 1870 census and her marker here. Garland Brook did not exist in 1877, so she would have been buried elsewhere, likely the old Catholic Cemetery, and removed to Garland Brook at a later date.
Their four children were:
Nellie, aka Helen Werner, aka Sister Mary Marcella, 1866-1949
Mollie, aka Mary Barbara Werner, aka Sister Aloysius Cecile, 1868-1929
William Francis Werner, about 1870-?
Gertrude Catherine (Werner) Yorger, 1876-1937

Joseph A. Werner died at his home, 226 Eighth street, Sunday morning at 9:20 o'clock. Mr. Werner was born in Hesse, Darmstadt, Germany, December 12 [1837.] He was the son of Peter and Gertrude Werner. At the age of ten years he came to America with his parents, locating , at Chambersburg, Pa. Later they came to Columbus, and for a while lived on a farm in Union township. He was a moulder by trade and worked at the B. B. Bush foundry for a number of years. Afterward he took service with the Cerealine Company at which place he had the misfortune to lose his right hand. Mr. Werner was .the oldest of ten children, and two brothers and one sister survive him, namely Jonathan T. Werner, of Indianapolis, Enoch Werner, of Edinburg, and Mrs. William Brockman, of this city. Mr. Werner was the father of six children, of whom four survive him. They are Nell Werner, of Palm Beach, Fla.; Mrs. Gertrude Yorger, of Indianapolis; Sister Mary Marcella and Sister Aloysious Cecile, Sisters of Providence, St. Mary's of the Woods, Terre Haute, Ind. Sister Mary Marcella is the boys teacher in St. Simon's Academy, Washington; Ind.; and Sister Aloysious Cecile is violin instructor in St. Gabriel's Academy, Connersville, Ind.

Mr. Werner enlisted June 19, 1851, In Company K, Thirteenth Indiana Volunteer Infantry, served throughout the civil war and received his final discharge July 1, 1864. He was a member of Isham Keith Post, G.A.R.

The funeral services were held on Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock from St. Bartholomew's church, and will be conducted by the Rev. Father J.B. Delaney. Burial was in the Gar- land Brook cemetery.
