Known by many as "JR" or "Junior", he was born on April 30, 1958, in Beckley to Hiram "Jurdon" Acord Sr. (B. 1937) and Shirley Lee Alderman-Acord (B. 1936) of Lester.
JR worked for many years as an iron worker, working for his brother’s construction company. He also worked as a heavy machinery operator for the coal mine where he was disabled in 2007. He enjoyed riding and showing his barrel horses at Jesse Horse Show. He was long-time coon hunter, enjoying fishing and camping with his children.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Albert Jurdon Acord (1909-1985) and Sylvia A. Lawson-Acord (1916-1994); maternal grandparents, Alfred Jennings Alderman (1906-1988) and Thelma "Tiny" Hudnall Alderman (1908-1994); by his nephew, Jurdon Melvin Lendy Acord (1979-1979).
In addition to his parents, those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Amanda Lucille Acord and children, Faith Michelle Acord, Lindsey Dawn Acord, Brittany Ann Acord and Albert Austin Acord all Lester; daughter, Jennifer Catherine Acord-Beshears and husband, Kevin Beshears of Tobaccoville, NC and grandson, Chase Magnum Beshears; sister, Shirley Acord-Ayers of Pemberton; brother, Lendy Acord and wife Robin Acord of Tolleytown; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, April 26 at 2:00 p at the Melton Mortuary. Pastor Jeff Perdue will be officiating. Burial will follow at Acord Mountain Family Cemetery.
