Jerome V Wood Jr. (Jerry), Wausau, WI passed away peacefully Thursday April 21st, 2016 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Jerry was born November 4th, 1939 in Wausau, WI, the Son of the late Jerome Sr. and Bertha (Lutzke) Wood. He was preceded in death by his sister Joanne (Wood) Chack, brother in-law Stanley Chack and Son James Wood. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 32 years Joan (Meyers) Wood, he was proud of his Daughters Judy Sanchez (Brian) San Jacinto, CA and Janice Alvis Turlock, CA, and his two step children, Keith Schroeder (Tami) Cleveland, TN and Kim Franson (Mark) Mosinee, WI, seven Grandchildren and eight Great-Grand Children. As well as numerous Nieces and Nephews.
He served his country honorably in the Navy aboard the USS Los Angeles California 135 from 1957 until 1961. Jerry often said how much he loved the Navy and wished he would have made it a career.
After leaving the Navy, Jerry lived in California for 10 years and worked at AJ Bayer Company as a machine press operator. He moved back to WI and worked as a laborer out of the union hall under International Laborers' Local No. 268.
Jerry loved sports and was a devoted Packer fan (although he did occasionally root for the 49ers during Joe Montana's reign). He and his wife Joan also had a cottage on Crescent Lake near his good friend Wes Mansor. They spent many enjoyable years on the water (pontooning with a cooler of Diet Coke) and enjoying campfires with family and friends. Jerry lost one of his best friends Denny Nelson in October who he missed very much. Jerry was a pet lover and had several dogs throughout his life. He had two favorites, Missy who is staying behind with Joan and his beloved Tiger who is going home with him.
He was a feisty, goofy, loving husband, father and friend and he will be truly missed.
A memorial service will be held at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Parish, 1104 S 9th Ave, Wausau, WI on April 30 th where Jerry was a member for many years, as he attended grade school there. Visitation will be held from 9:30 until time of service at 11:00 and will be officiated by Father Dan Thelen. Burial will be at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery.
