Alan Lee Hanback, 66, Fairland, Indiana, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2016, at St. Francis Hospital, Indianapolis. He was born in South Bend on Dec. 9, 1949.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, member of the VFW 5864 of Greenwood, Keystone Masonic Lodge 251, active member of the UAW 685 at Chrysler Corp. (KTP), Kokomo. Alan retired from Navistar in 2009 after 17 years of service and Witco Richardson Battery Parts Division in Indianapolis after 21 years of service. He enjoyed the outdoors working in his yard and garden, loved his country and the Democratic Party, avid Alabama Crimson Tide fan, enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson. Alan loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He will be missed deeply by his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Karen J. Hanback, Fairland; sons, Eric (Stephanie) Lines, New Palestine, and Cory Hanback, Fairland; sisters, Bobbie (Herschel) Herston, Huntsville, Alabama, Sue Middleton, Tekoa, Washington, and Joyce Gosztola, South Bend; brothers, Denny Hanback, Mishawaka, and Ricky (Tammy) Hanback, South Bend; grandchildren, Austin, Ava and Georgia Lines.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Grace Austin Hanback; brothers, Grady, Ronnie, Terry and Mark Hanback; sisters, Betty Willits and Judy Whaley.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, May 2, 2016 at Bell Mortuary & Crematory, Shangrila Chapel, 1444 W. U.S. 52, Fountaintown, IN 46130, with the visitation from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary. There will be a Masonic service at 7 p.m. Burial will be in the Pleasantview Cemetery, Pleasantview.
