Dorothy May (Losh) Abels, the daughter of Harry R. and Lena May (McGrath) Losh, was born May 8, 1929, in Clarion, Iowa. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth, graduating from Clarion High School in 1947.

On November 8, 1947, Dorothy was united in marriage with Eugene R. Abels at the Presbyterian Church in Clarion. The couple made their home in Kanawha, where they farmed until 1962, when they relocated to Eagle Grove.

Dorothy was an active member of Samuel Lutheran Church – serving as a Sunday school teacher, Bible school teacher, Circle member and volunteering for many other church activities. Dorothy was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles and loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Dorothy passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2016, at Rotary Senior Living in Eagle Grove, at the age of 86 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Armond, Robert and Donald; two sisters, Ruth Losh and Jean Smith; daughter-in-law, Lynnda (Sorenson) Abels and son-in-law, Larry Christopher.

Survivors include her husband, Gene Abels of Eagle Grove; children: Steven Abels and wife Maureen of Metairie, LA, Paul Abels of Altoona, Patricia Christopher of Eagle Grove and Philip Abels and wife Patty of Bondurant; nine grandchildren: Chad Christopher (Jessica), Justin Abels, Steffanie Christopher, Caia Abels, Nicolas Abels, Michelle Oleson (Jeff), Leslie Soulis (Steve), Jerome Abels (Tammy) and Amanda Harding (Josh) and twenty-one great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, April 28, 2016, 1:30 p.m. at Samuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor Richard Taylor officiating, with Visitation from 12:00 pm until service time at the church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
