Laura was born in Hanover, Pa. to R. Clair and Margaret ( Hoff ) Althoff. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Dr. Michael Althoff, and sister, Jane Root.

Laura graduated from St. Joseph's Academy, McSherrystown, Pa. She earned her BSN from Case Western Reserve University Florence Payne Bolton School of Nursing, Cleveland, Ohio, and Master of Science in Human Services, from New England College in Henniker. Laura was a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator, State of NH.

Laura's career spanned several areas of healthcare. While she was a student in Cleveland, Laura worked as a Research Assistant in the Cardiac Laboratory, University Hospitals of Cleveland. Immediately following graduation from college in Cleveland, she was employed as a Supervisor and Clinical Supervisor at the Benjamin Rose Hospital of the University Hospitals of Cleveland. Upon moving to Concord, she was employed at Concord Hospital as the Assistant Director of Nursing and she was promoted to Clinical Director. She was faculty at Concord Hospital School of Nursing; Assistant Administrator of Havenwood-Heritage Heights; the State Licensing and Federal Certification Coordinator, NH Department of Public Health, Bureau of Health Facilities Administration; and a Protective Services Advocate, NH Office of Long Term Care Ombudsman.

While Laura was a student in Cleveland, she sang under the direction of Mr. Robert Shaw as a member of the Robert Shaw Chorale with the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra. As a member of South Congregational Church she was a longtime member of the choir. In her youth, Laura traveled through the Midwest setting up home talent shows. She was also a former member of the Concord Players.

Laura served as Past President of the Zonta Club of Concord as well as Area 1 Director for Zonta (Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont). She was a past member of the Concord Regional VNA Board of Directors. She served as an RSVP Volunteer at Dame School where she received an award from the Concord School District for her literacy work with the children. Laura also volunteered at Concord Hospital. Following nomination by Governor John Lynch, Laura served as the Public Member of the NH Board of Chiropractic Examiners.

Laura is survived by her best friend and former caregiver, Gyme Hardy, her neighbors of 38 years and many friends.
