From the book, The Poetry of Blanche Buckholtz

Be thoroughly engrossed in the poetry and thoughts of 97-year-old Blanche Buckholtz, an award-winning artist, mosaicist, classical pianist, coloratura soprano, historian, philosopher and brilliant poet. Notwithstanding the loss of two sons, Arnold to natural causes and Marshall by suicide, in addition to losing the use of her right arm in 1941 to polio, she has persevered.

Now you have the opportunity to read her poetry and thoughts starting from age 7, about her joys and sorrows and her philosophizing about all aspects of the world and human condition . . . often with great humor. She opens up her heart and soul and touches the heart of the reader all through this anthology of poems, letters and thoughts. Blanche expresses her pride in her son, Alan (himself a recently published poet).

She writes beautiful poems expressing love and admiration for Alan's late wife Nancy and devotion to her late husband, Sam. Read beautiful poems of sorrow about Arnold and an emotional letter to Alan and Nancy's three children, Aaron, Laura and Jenny about her pride in her late son, Marshall.

Blanche shares her thoughts and feelings about the universe and nature's beauty along with tributes to famous poets and great composers like Tchaikovsky and a stirring tribute to the heroic Chinese man staring down a tank in protest at Tiananmen Square. She rails at injustice and has grippingly critical and hostile remarks about people such as Saddam Hussein and Milosevic.

Blanche even wrote a poem about football stars, Tim Brown and Jerry Rice. She was an all-star baseball player in high school, an outstanding tennis player and once had a hole-in-one playing golf. She majored in philosophy and music at USC and was a screaming football fan at USC's football games in the late 1920s.

Obviously, Blanche's favorite colors are lavender and purple.

At the time of production, Blanche has just awakened from a week-long coma and told her son that she eagerly awaits the opportunity to hold this book in her hands . . . still persevering.
