Tom was born Ocy. 3,1961 in Winchester to Wallace "Wally" and Mary Maxine (Walker ) Haines. Tom graduated from Winchester Community High School in 1980. His membership in The Force Marching Band was a true highlight of his time at WCHS much to the delight of his nephew (who played the trumpet just like Uncle Tom). Tom could point to his position in each formation in the grainy show videos the family enjoyed before Thanksgiving Dinner. Tom had a fantastic memory for everything especially if involved family and an even better sense of humor. He graduated from Ball State. Tom devoted himself to the family business, working behind the prescription counter as a pharmacy technician with his Dad st Haines Rexall Drug Store. Wally always said he would have had to retire from pharmacy much earlier if it had not been for Tom mastering the new computer system they were required to install. After Wally's retirement, they kept the store opened as Haines Hallmark Cards, still serving up old fashion sodas at the fountain. Tom continued the tradition after Wally's passing, acting as owner/operator of the store for more than a decade Tom and his sister Janis enjoyed working there together in recent years truly a labor of love and tribute to their family.
