Herrin – Charles Edward Deere, 81 died at 3:30 pm Sunday, September 17, 2000 at the Marion VA Med Center. Funeral Home is Johnson-Hughes and burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Energy with military rites. He had retired from Norge after 30 years. He was a Catholic, member of VFW, Knights of Columbus, and was a Navy veteran of World War II serving in the S. Pacific on the battleship Missouri. He was also a member of Bryan Street Baptist Church.
He was born December 5, 1918 in Herrin to John Wilson and Gladys Maze Deere. He married Mary Davis on January 30, 1941 in Cape Girardeau MO and she died August 22, 1982. Survivors include 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Anna J. and Carolos Williams of Herrin and Sharon and Bud Beltz of Johnston City, son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Teresa Deere of Energy, 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents, 1 grandchild and a brother, Robert Deere.
