Ruby Genes Wells Cartledge, 83, of Gastonia, NC, passed away in Goldsboro, NC, on April 28, 2016. Ruby was born in the Bethany community of York County, SC, on August 8, 1932, the daughter of Oliver Hope and Clara Wells and the last surviving sibling of that marriage. She was active in her church, loved animals, enjoyed refinishing furniture and had a green thumb. She enjoyed working alongside her husband, John, delivering ...newspapers for over 20 years and working security at Bank of America.
Ruby was a 5th generation Beamguard and traced her lineage through Oliver Hope Wells, Sr., Oliver Cromwell Beamguard, & Adam Beamguard.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, John Lamar Cartledge, who passed away on March 10, 2016, a son Robert Lamar Cartledge, and two grandsons, Larry Johnson and Kevin Johnson. She is survived by her two sons, John David Cartledge and his wife Daryl of Mount Olive, NC, and Michael Eugene Cartledge and his wife Gail of Belmont, NC, a grandson, Tim Johnson, and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30PM on Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at Gaston Memorial Park in Gastonia.
