Edson B. Collins was born in the eastern part of Mclean County.
In his fifteenth year he entered Wesleyan University at Bloomington, after which he taught school three years in the vicinity of Saybrook. The next five years were spent teaching in Kansas and California. He returned to Illinois and settled in Ford county, teaching and farming for several years southeast of this city.
He was married in 1892 to a daughter of L. N. Bishop. The couple moved to Chicago, and to this union were born two children, a son and daughter. The boy was 8 years old and the girl 6 years at the time of their father's death.
For several years Mr. Collins taught in the Chicago public schools, during which time he was finishing am! completing his education, so well begun at Wesleyan. Before he quit teaching he had secured a teacher's life certificate to teach in Cook county. Three years ago he quit teaching and began work in the City postal department collecting the mails, which work he continued until his final sickness prevented.
