Julia was the daughter of Temple Elliott "Tom" Hickman and Sarah Elinor Davis. She was born in an area of Barry Co. which was later taken into Lawrence County at its formation.
She was united in marriage July 18, 1861 in Lawrence Co., Missouri to Cordy C. Dunning by her maternal uncle, William R. Davis, M.G.
At Cordy's death in 1863, Julia was left a young widow with a seven month old baby. She remained with her widowed mother Sally on the Hickman family homestead. After Julia's death nine years later, her young daughter Dora was well and lovingly raised by Grandmother Sally Hickman.
