Dennis L. Benes was born on January 6, 1949 in Jackson, Minnesota to Benard "Bennie" Frank and Beverly (McNeal) Benes. He was baptized in Babbit, Minnesota and later was confirmed at the First Presbyterian Church in Jackson. Dennis received his early education at Riverside Elementary School in Jackson and later graduated from Jackson High School. He then served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam until being honorably discharged.
In April of 1972, Dennis was united in marriage to Kathy Edmondson in Windom. After marriage, they made their home in Windom and were blessed with three children, Jason, Reid and Rachel. Later this marriage was dissolved. On May 20, 1995, Dennis was united in marriage to Lorraine Evelyn Rehnelt at the Minnehaha County Courthouse in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They made their home in rural Windom and Dennis was blessed with four step-children; Deanna, Robert, Nancy and Randy. For forty-two years, Dennis worked for TORO in Windom as a machinist, painter and assembler until retiring in 2013. After retiring, Dennis and Lorraine continued to make their home in rural Windom.
Recently, Dennis was diagnosed with cancer and was placed in hospice care at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where he passed away on Friday, December 18, 2015 at the age of 66 years.
Dennis had many enjoyments in life which included camping at Loon Lake, fishing, farm equipment and anything outdoors, especially his horses.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Lorraine E. Benes of Windom; children, Reid (Eve) Benes of Lake City, MN; Rachel Benes of Eagle Lake, MN; Deanna (Scott) Bacca of Scottsdale, AZ; Robert (Denise) Appel of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Nancy Wagner of Broomfield, CO; Randy (Bonnie) Appel of Harris, IA; mother, Beverly Benes of Jackson; 26 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three siblings, Benny Benes of Hawthorne, WI; Steven (Debbie) Benes of Jackson; Kim Benes of Jackson; and many nieces and nephews.
Dennis is preceded in death by his father; son, Jason Benes and brother, Kevin Benes.
