Rae Barbara (Allan) DeLaune passed away on Mother’s Day, May 8, 2016, at a local Baytown hospital. She was loved by family and friends, and she will be dearly missed by all.

Rae was born on August 4, 1917 in Miami, Florida, where her father was the engineer on a dredge boat, digging the Intracoastal canal along the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts of Texas. Rae moved with her family to Texas City, Texas as a child, and she graduated from Texas City High School in 1935. She met her husband Edwin DeLaune shortly thereafter. Over the course of their 55-year marriage, Rae and Ed enjoyed many happy years together, and they delighted in raising their daughters, Renee and Suzanne.

Rae loved to play bridge and to visit with her many friends in Baytown. She was part of a wonderful generation of women who were selfless, humble, good cooks and who cherished their strong extended family. Her memory will be a blessing to her friends and her family.

Rae was preceded in death by her husband Edwin, parents Ed and Gertrude Allan, her sisters Bernice Smith and Blake Beeler, and her nephew George W. Beeler. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Renee and Bill Treacy, and Suzanne and Larry Wonson, and her grandchildren Amy Wonson Longo and Michael Wonson, as well as many beloved nieces and other family members. Her family would also like to thank Margarita Sustaita, Valerie Joachim and Sylvia Perez, Beryl Tippins, Amie Martinez and Dr. Fernando Sarti for their unwavering support in her care.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2016, at Crespo & Jirrels Funeral Home from 6-7:30 p.m., followed by a short prayer service. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, May 13th at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, located at 1907 Carolina Avenue in Baytown. A brief reception will follow in the Family Life Center. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity dear to Rae: Sterling Municipal Library Bookmobile.
