Betty was born in Waco, Texas, to the late Charles B. and Hortense Virginia McKinney Smith. She attended school in Henderson and San Angelo, Texas, and was a graduate of Lake Charles High School. Betty attended McNeese State University, Oklahoma Baptist University, and was a graduate of Baylor University.
She and Marion Gardner "Jack" Anderson were married on October 21, 1950, in Waco. Betty was an active member of Austin Avenue United Methodist Church where she attended the Friendship Class and served in many capacities. Betty was a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Mary Milam Garden Club, The American Association of University Women and the Waco-McLennan County Retired Teachers Association.
Betty was employed at James Connally Air Force Base. After earning her degree she was an elementary teacher in the Waco ISD, retiring in 1984.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years Jack; and her sister, Virginia Smith Harwood.
Survivors include her daughters: Martha Grace Cranor and husband, John David II, of Fort Collins, Colorado, Marian Gail Daniel and husband, Frank Jefferson, Jr., of Arlington, Texas, and Virginia Kay Cosper and husband, James William, of Fort Worth, Texas; grandchildren: John David Cranor III, of Cambridge, Massachusetts, Matthew Anderson Cranor, of Gravevine, Texas, Jennifer Gail Daniel and Sarah Elizabeth Daniel, both of Lubbock, Texas; brother, Charles B. Smith, of Denver, Colorado; other relatives and many friends.
