John Koons, Vero Beach

John T. Koons, 85, of Vero Beach, entered into eternal rest on November 9, 2003, at the VNA Hospice House, Vero Beach, after a brief illness. He was born on May 18, 1918, in Middleport, New York and moved to Vero Beach in 1980 from Rochester, New York.

Mr. Koons was a carpenter and retired from the Eastman Kodak Company, Rochester, after sixteen years of employment.

He was a proud United States Army Veteran of World War II.

He was a member of the Saint Helen Catholic Church, Vero Beach.

Survivors are his wife of 26 years, Marion "Bunnie;" one son, Roy Koons of New Orleans, Louisiana; two daughters, Jacqueline Barnes of Rochester and Merrillee Armour of Terre Haute, Indiana; one stepson, Raymond Westra of Farmingdale, New York; sister, Genevieve Brockway of Lockport, New York; sixteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

His memorial service will be held at 4 PM.

John was the son of John Logan Koons and Frances H. McLeod.


PVT. JOHN T. KOONS, whose wife and child reside in Middleport, is receiving his basic training in Field Artillery at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He was recently awarded the Sharpshooters medal for proficiency in firing the carbine rifle. Before his induction in June, he was employed by the Buffalo Arms Corporation.
