Donald Edward Smith, age 74, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Donald was born October 6, 1941 in Dalton, GA. He was the son of the late Dewey and Thelma Miolen Smith. He was predeceased by his wife Martha McBrayer Smith. Don was a veteran of the US Army and was an avid fisherman.
He is survived by his son and daughter in law; Gary and Angela Smith of Dalton, GA, step granddaughter Tara Adkins and step great granddaughter Paityn Adkins. He is also survived by a brother and sister in law; Lamar and Shirley Curtis of Ten Mile, TN, niece; Kristy and Bobby and Lindsey Ward of Decatur, TN, three half- brothers; Rodney Smith, Roger Smith and Warren Smith all of South Dakota, as well as a half-sister Gayle Smith Fountain also of South Dakota. Special cousins of the Miolen family and special friends of the family; the Neil Travillian Family.
Graveside Services to celebrate the life of Donald Edward Smith will be held Saturday May14, 2016 at West Hill Cemetery in Dalton, GA at 1:00 PM with Pastor Gary McPherson officiating. He will be laid to rest at West Hill Cemetery with Military honors and Donnie Travillian, Andrew Green, Jayson Smith, Doc Dawkins, Brian Curtis and Scott Gibson serving as pall bearers. The family will receive friends Friday evening May 13, 2016 from 5:00pm to 9:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family request you make donations in his name to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
