Services for Mary Elizabeth Taylor, 83, of Tyler will be held at 10:30 a. m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006, at Tyler Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. C.L. Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Tyler Memorial Park under direction of Tyler Memorial Funeral Home.
Ms. Taylor died Oct. 19, 2006, at a Tyler hospice.
She was born Nov. 1, 1922, to the late James Julius and Sue Giddens Puckett in Red River County. Ms. Taylor was a descendant of Martin Varner, one of the original 300 settlers to come to Texas with Stephen F. Austin. She worked as a Class A Welder during World War II and worked at Buddy Schoelkoff as a seamstress. She moved to Tyler in 1961 and was a homemaker. In 1965, she moved to Iowa, where she worked as a telephone operator. In 1970, she returned to Tyler, where she lived as homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother until her death.
Ms. Taylor was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob Taylor; sisters, Julia Ruth Harshbarger and Virginia Sue Merritt; and a brother, John Puckett. She is survived by, a daughter, Sue Manziel; son and wife, Jim and Joni Taylor; brothers, James Puckett Jr. and Charles Puckett; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren
Pallbearers will be Henry Cooper, Robert Howard, Paul Chlapek, Josh Ellis, Brandon Howard and Dane Puckett.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
