ROBERT CHESTER LEWIS

Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon from the Ord Presbyterian church for Robert Chester Lewis, who died on May 11 in the St. Francis hospital at Grand Island. The Rev. Allen Strong of Hastings conducted the funeral rites. Ruth Ollis, as organist, played as a solo, 'In the Garden'.
Interment was made in the Ord City cemetery, the arrangements having been made by the Hastings-Pearson mortuary.
Robert Chester Lewis was born July 20, 1884, in Kanakee, Ill., to Henry and Susan Lewis. He passed away in the St. Francis hospital in Grand Island, May 11, 1953, at the age of 68 years, nine months and 22 days. He had been ill about six months.
He came to Nebraska with his parents at the age of 4 years and has lived in the Ord community ever since, except for two years, when he lived in Oregon and Idaho.
On December 24, 1910, he was married to Lucy Ellen Travis, daughter of Fred and Addie Travis. To this union five children were born, one son, Harold of Tacoma, Wash., and four daughters, Alice of Ord, Margaret of Grand Island, Catherine and Lucille of Tacoma, Wash.
The family lived on a farm in Vinton township until 1932, when they moved to Burwell. They lived in Burwell and the Taylor vicinity until 1940, when they moved to a farm north of Ord. Here he lived until his death. His wife died after a long illness in 1942. He is survived by his children, also three grandchildren, Jean Lemmon, Russell and Lucille Snyder. Also left are one sister, Mrs. Alice Kull, Santa Anna, Calif.; four brothers, Harry Lewis of Central City, Guy Lewis of Salem, Ore., Charles Lewis, Ord, and Arthur Lewis of Los Angeles, Calif. Three brothers, Fred, John and Eddie, preceded him in death.
