Ira Edwin Tobolowsky, extraordinary husband, father and brother, born November 17, 1947, passed away May 13, 2016. He was predeceased by his father Jack Lehman Tobolowsky and his mother Josephine Pergament Tobolowsky. Ira graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1965, SMU in 1968 and and then SMU Law School. He began the practice of law in 1971 with the Law Firm of Tobolowsky, Schlinger and Blalock, followed by many successful firms, including Tobolowsky and Burk, founded in 1990. He was one of the youngest lawyers admitted to the bar in Texas history, practiced law for over 45 years and argued before the United States Supreme Court in 1982. Among his innumerable honors and awards, Ira was long recognized as a pre-eminent advocate, earning the elite AV rating based on professional and ethical excellence. Though a Mensa member, he always knew how to make everyone around him feel smart and important. A man of unimpeachable integrity, he was so accomplished and committed to his clients. Ira, a most generous man, had an indelible impact on his family and his enormous group of loyal friends. He devoted his life and career to protecting his family and others, to the end. Loved and respected by all, he was and will remain everyone's hero. Ira was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 39 years, Debbie, sons Jonathan (fiancé Lindsay), Michael and Zachary, brother to George (Julie) Tobolowsky, Myra (Stuart) Prescott, Janet Martin (Jeff z"l) and Dona (Terry) Timm . He's also survived by his Aunt Shirley Tobolowsky and cousins, Mark, Emily and Jill. He was the favorite uncle to Stacy, Marni, Teddy, Kathryn, Laura, Adam, Robert, Matthew, Amy, Jason and Jennifer. Funeral services will be held at Shearith Israel Synagogue on Sunday, May 15 at 1:00pm, followed by interment at Hillcrest Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
