Pleas Carter was so at peace with life-- and death--that he planned his own funeral, right down to a pre-recorded CD of meaningful songs. His sports-loving grandchildren sang "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" at the graveside rites.

Pleas was the only son of Mrs. Ruth Barbee Carter and the late Pleas Wilson Carter Sr.

Pleas was educated in Concord City Schools, graduated from Concord High School in 1961 and received his business degree from East Carolina University in 1964. Following his graduation he went to work as a computer programmer and operator with Cannon Mills. In 1970 he joined his father-in-law's business-Ward Realty and made the real estate business his career until his death. He was instrumental in beginning the Multiple Listing Service in Cabarrus County. Despite his year-long battle with non-Hodgkins lymphoma, he remained active at Appraisal Associates of Metrolina until his death. He was an active member of Central United Methodist Church serving on the Administrative Board as a Trustee for several terms and on the Building Committee during construction of the Sanctuary. He was a member of the Concord Jaycees and was currently serving on the Board of Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County. He and his wife worked together as Meals on Wheels volunteers. He was member of the National Belted Galloway Cattlemans Association where he served as a council member. He owned and operated Ridgeview Farm along with his son. He was a member of the Antique Advertising Association of America.

He will be remembered as a true friend by many and a devoted husband to his high school sweetheart and wife Ruby Jane Ward Carter. The joy and happiness in his life came from his love for his children and grandchildren. He was greatly admired, respected and loved by all of his family.

In addition to his mother, Pleas is survived by his wife Ruby, son David Ward Carter (wife Julie); daughters, Cris Carter Eudy (husband Leonard); and Jenny Carter Burris (husband Brent); and eight beloved grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father in 1984 and his grandson Barrett Ryan Eudy in 1990.
