Aberdeen - Mass of Christian Burial for Rosalie Marie Hoerner, 85, of Aberdeen will be 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 16, 2006, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Aberdeen. Father Gregory Tschakert will be officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Aberdeen. Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements. Liturgical wake service and a Rosary will be 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, 2006, at the mortuary. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary and for one hour prior to the funeral Mass Monday at the church. Rosalie passed away Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital. Rosalie Marie Geier was born March 30, 1921, to Adam and Theresa (Heintz) Geier at Roscoe, S.D., where she was raised and attended rural schools. At a young age, she moved with her sister Katherine to Seattle, Wash. Rosalie was employed with Boeing Aircraft Company during WWII. Her job was riveting wings together and was known as Rosie the Riveter. Rosalie married Sebastian Baumgartner in 1943 at Seattle, Wash. Sebastian was in the Army Air Corps and was a fighter pilot. He was killed during a fighter pilot training exercise during WWII. In 1949, Rosalie returned to South Dakota and moved to Aberdeen. Rosalie was a cook for the St. Mary's Rectory and St. Mary's Elementary School for several years. Rosalie married George F. Hoerner June 17, 1954, at St. Mary's Church in Aberdeen, and they continued to make Aberdeen their lifelong home. Rosalie was a member of St. Mary's Church and St. Mary's Altar Society for many years. Rosalie enjoyed playing cards, working in her gardens and the many family trips back to the Roscoe, Bowdle and Hoven area to visit family and friends. Surviving Rosalie are three daughters, Diana Carrasquillo of Hayward, Calif., Mariann (Robert) Gregson of Sandpoint, Idaho, and Cindy (Rick) Scheuffele of Aberdeen; three sons, Joe Hoerner of Sioux Falls, S.D., Henry Hoerner of Aberdeen and Jim Hoerner of Aberdeen; two brothers, Wendelin (Maggie) Geier of Roscoe and Joe Geier of Aberdeen, one sister-in-law, Frances Geier of Longview, Wash., and two grandchildren, Joshua and Joseph Scheuffele. Rosalie was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, Sebastian during WWII and George in 1981, three sisters, Barbara Geier, Perpetua Geier and Katherine Baumgartner, and three brothers, Frank Geier, Clemens Geier and Pius Geier. Pallbearers will be her three sons, Joe Hoerner, Henry Hoerner and Jim Hoerner, and Blake Rehfeld and Dan Geier.
