Barbara Ann Maurer, age 80, a Manitowoc resident, entered eternal life on Tuesday afternoon, May 17, 2016 at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, Manitowoc.
Barbara was born September 25, 1935 in Manitowoc. She was the daughter of the late Herbert and Gladys Christensen Westphal. Barbara attended Lincoln High School and graduated with the class of 1953. She continued her education at the University of Wisconsin in Madison from where she graduated in 1957. On November 24, 1956 she married Richard Maurer at First German Ev. Lutheran Church in Manitowoc. Barbara was the secretary and treasurer of Westphals of Manitowoc, Inc. until she retired in 1989. She was a lifetime member of First German Ev. Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years: Dick; two sons: Dr. David (Debra) Maurer, Burnsville, MN; Dr. James (Katie) Maurer, Longmont, CO; two daughters: Dr. Sara Maurer, Anchorage, AK; Catherine Maurer, Cumming, GA; grandchildren: Matthew, Michael, Andrew, Daniel Patrick Maurer; Daniel James Maurer; Carl and James Morse; Lisa (Rusty) Jenkins; two great grandchildren: Jayden and Blake Morse; one brother-in-law and one sister-in-law: Charles (Cecilia) Maurer and Junice (Roger) Budnik; along with other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Herbert and Gladys Westphal; one brother: Richard Westphal; one brother-in-law and his wife: Clifford and Delma Maurer.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, May 20, 2016 at First German Ev. Lutheran Church, 1033 South 8th Street, Manitowoc. Officiating will be Rev. Christopher Hoppe and Rev. Benjamin Schaefer with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Manitowoc. A luncheon for relatives and friends will follow at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center located on the south property of the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. There will be a visitation at First German Ev. Lutheran Church on Friday, May 20, 2016 from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be directed to the Westphal Scholarship Fund at First German Ev. Lutheran Church. Online condolences to the family may be sent to www.harriganparksidefuneralhome.com.
