Howard Karkow Agger, 96, passed away peacefully at home on May 9, 2016. Howard was born to Jens and Anna Agger on May 4, 1920, in Chicago. He was known to friends and family as Bud, shortened from Buddy, a nickname from his father, a soldier in WWI. Bud was joined by two brothers, Calvin and Ray.

Bud graduated from Kelvin Park HS in 1937 and enrolled at the University of Illinois where he joined the Delta Chi Fraternity. During his junior year, he met June Ellen Williams ("Elin"), his lifelong companion and wife of 67 years. Elin preceded Bud in death in March 2009.

After graduating, Bud was drafted into the army and sent to Fort Sill, OK. When WWII started, Elin, fearing Bud would be sent overseas, travelled to Lawton, and they were married on January 17, 1942. Fortunately for them, Bud was accepted to Officer Candidate School, and his first assignment was to teach gunnery for a year at Fort Sill. They settled in Lawton, and Elin became pregnant with their daughter Dale. Sons William and David followed after the war. Bud served four full years in the service, finishing as a captain and battery commander in the 359th FA Battalion of the 95th Infantry Division. He received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star along with several campaign medals while fighting in the European theatre.

After his military service, Bud joined his father-in-law's business, eventually becoming owner. During those years, the Agger family lived in suburbs of Chicago, first Riverside and then Glen Ellyn. Bud sold the business in 1972, at which point he and Elin retired to the countryside near La Crosse, WI. They lived happily there for 17 years before moving to Fort Collins in 1990 to be near their daughter and her child who was nearing school age. Bud is survived by his brother Calvin, daughter Dale, sons William and David, grandchildren Todd, Sean and Jens, great grandchildren Dane, Lucy, Layth, Adam and Eli, and canine companion Izzy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Nature Conservancy or Planned Parenthood.
