Wayne Lloyd Hughes and Olive Dion were married August 16, 1947 in Ashland.

Ashland - Wayne L. Hughes, 66, died August 20 1983, at the Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth after a brief illness.

A lifetime resident of Ashland, he had served in the Navy during WWII and had received the American Theater Medal and the Victory Medal. He had worked for the Town of Ashland for the past 25 years and was the supervisor of the Water Department. He retired at age 65.

He was the former deputy chief of the Ashland Fire Department and was also a former member of the Laconia B.P.O.E. Elks.

The family includes his wife, Irene (Dion) Hughes; two sons, a daughter, two sisters, three brothers, eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Services: A graveside service were be held at the Green Grove Cemetery, Ashland, Tuesday afternoon at. The Rev. Kenneth Borchers of the Hosanna Christian Fellowship officiated. Arrangements are under the direction of the Sprague Funeral Home, Plymouth. >The Union Leader, Sunday, August 22, 1993.


The American Campaign Medal was awarded for thirty days' service outside the Continental United States but within the American Theater of Operations between December 7, 1941, and March 2, 1946. The World War II Victory Medal may be awarded to all members of the Armed Forces of the United States or of the Government of the Philippine Islands who served on active duty in World War II at any time between 7 December 1941 and 31 December 1946, both dates inclusive. (Established by Public Law No. 135 of 6 July 1945.)
