Joseph Ormond "J.O." Kirk Sr.
Funeral service for Mr. Joseph Ormond "J.O." Kirk Sr., 62, will be held on Sunday, May 29, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Gray Brown Service Mortuary with the Reverend Chris Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Anniston Memorial Gardens veterans section. Visitation will be from 12 until 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Kirk passed away on Saturday, May 21st in Austin, Texas. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joseph and Katie Brown, of Anniston, Ala., Ormond "Bud" Kirk, of Oxford, Ala., Christine Taccone, of Selma, Ala.; his father, Ormond Louis Kirk, of Moultrie, Georgia, his beloved mother, Carolyn Kirk McGee, of Anniston, Ala.; his half-sister, Michelle Kirk, of Moultrie, Ga.; and his former wife and the mother of his children, Bonnie Boyle, of Tyler, Texas. Mr. Kirk was a veteran, having served in the United States Army with the 82nd Airborne in Bamberg, Germany. He was an avid coin collector and was a talented artist and writer. He truly never met a stranger. He had a multitude of friends from all walks of life. He loved telling jokes, laughing and having everyone around him laughing along with him. He was a great storyteller and a lover of poetry. He spent many years going back and forth between the family he had in Alabama and the family he had raised in Texas. In his most recent years he was drawn back to Texas to be near the ones who made him the most proud, his children and grandchildren. He will be missed.
